Top 15 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen

Deciding where to plan your wedding? Look no further!

Here are the top 15 reasons to have your wedding in Aspen:

  1. Mountains are the defining landscape feature of Aspen, Colorado and they provide a breathtaking backdrop to any wedding ceremony. One great option is to ride the Silver Queen gondola to the top of Aspen Mountain, and get married on top of the world (or what feels like the top of the world) with the Elk Mountains in the background and we are sure you will feel Aspen was the right place for your wedding within seconds.Top 10 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  2. The incredible local cuisine and fine dining options in Aspen offer your guests an opportunity to experience a fabulous meal, in a picturesque town, while still feeling intimate and cozy. Matsuhisa Aspen is a wonderful example of this. Every foodie knows Nobu, and this is his fabulous Aspen outpost.HarknessWeddTop 10 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspening_Reception_034-2791216565-O
  3. Mountain Elegance: Aspen can’t look bad. She is a town that allows you to chose just about any month of the year (avoid April and November - these months mark the end of the ski and summer seasons and many local places shut down to regroup for the next season’s guests) to host your wedding and you are always promised fabulous photos, and wonderful Colorado weather. The summers are warm but not humid, the winters provide a white blanket of snow at all times and the fall produces color changes on the trees that are overwhelmingly beautiful.Top 10 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  4. Aspen has 5 star lodging accommodations as well as charming, quaint and budget friendly hotel options. Every end of your guest spectrum will be happy with the accessibility to the downtown area as well as the range in pricing they can chose from while staying in Aspen.Top 10 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  5. We’ve made it to number 5 without stating the obvious, and now it shall be: For the Outdoors activities! Your guests will have options that range from skiing, snowboarding, river rafting, hiking, biking, walking, pool lounging, outdoor dining, and more, to indulge in their free time. The landscape is so beautiful, that even those less active guests, sitting outside enjoying the view, in the summer or winter (most places accommodate outdoor seating even in the winter with heat lamps) will be a complete treat and something they will enjoy.0548HalWilliams2012-997789-4
  6. Aspen is the playground for the rich and famous, so if you have a cousin, friend or guest you know who loves people watching and celeb spotting Aspen will not disappoint! The likes of Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon, the Hilton sisters, Rhianna, Goldie Hawn etc etc etc etc are constantly seen coming off the chair lifts, enjoying an apres drink outside of the local eateries and shopping about town. You will feel like a star yourself just being in Aspen!Top 10 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  7. Have you given some thought to hosting an eco- friendly wedding? Aspen event planners and venues receive this request often and are happy to oblige. From biodegradable and eco friendly decor, minimizing products that will end up in a landfill and providing options for floral and decor from the natural elements easily obtained in Aspen, a green-minded bride can feel happy she is doing her part for the environment while inviting guests to a memorable and beautiful event.Top 10 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  8. Aspen has numerous venues that provide a wonderful and memorable ambiance for smaller parties. If a small, intimate wedding is something you are dreaming of, there are so many options for where to host this event. Your party will not feel overwhelmed by an event space, and will feel like the event space you chose was custom built to suit the needs of a smaller party.Top 10 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  9. Large parties have their choice of fabulous venues as well. There are different locations within Aspen’s city limits and just beyond that can host very large parties that still have an intimate feel. No one knows this better than the Gold Leaf team, as they are continuously producing events for 400+ people without service, decor, or production value suffering.Top 15 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  10. You can tastefully incorporate the natural elements. Even if you are not the outdoorsy type, it is a natural and beautiful thing when the natural elements of the surroundings are incorporated into the wedding venue. The Aspen trees translate beautifully onto items like paper goods, table decor and even the food! Check out this beautiful Aspen tree inspired wedding cake (you’re getting the idea now):Top 10 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  11. Ever felt like taking a ski run in a wedding gown? Aspen is a wedding locale that can accommodate special requests such as this (and we have seen this done)! Fireworks displays, horse and carriage rides, and partying over 11,000 feet up a mountain with your guests are all possible when you chose to have your wedding in Aspen!Top 10 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  12. The international vibe in Aspen is undeniable. People come from all over the world to experience the splendors of this mountain town. Many of your guests will be quick to recognize that the people they are sharing the lift with may be speaking another language. And if your guests are from outside of the country, this may make them feel all that more at ease. This international mix provides for something different than your average out-west ski town. The influx of international guests influences the level of service you will enjoy in Aspen as well as the continued effort of the town and establishments within it to always work to provide a memorable and lasting experience. We want to make a good impression after all!Top 15 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  13. Aspen has a nightlife! This is somewhat unusual for mountain ski towns, but Aspen is the exception at most of what it provides. From night clubs with DJs and bartenders ready to get you on the dance floor, to comedy shows, and bars with more of an out-west feel, your guests will not have to tuck in when the lights go out. The party is just getting started!Top 10 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen
  14. The shopping in Aspen is a draw for some and just an added perk for others. Aspen is home to high-end boutiques such as Gorsuch, Christian Dior, Prada, Gucci, Moncler and more. Small boutiques are a plenty as well, with specialty shops and art galleries spotting the downtown area. An afternoon could easily be spent strolling in and out of these store fronts or just enjoying the fresh air while window shopping.Top 15 Reasons to Have Your Wedding in Aspen

An International Engagement story; from Michigan to Paris!

At Gold Leaf Event Design & Production, we love a good proposal story!  Claire and Eduardo's engagement has all of our hearts throbbing!  Hear the story from directly from the groom here! From the Groom: As I think back on our international engagement story, I am not sure what I have done to deserve all the blessings I have gotten in life; I could argue that life has been unfairly kind to me. Of those blessings, the biggest one has been meeting the love of my life, my wife Claire.   2010_1120_Clare and Kiks_102 2010_1120_Clare and Kiks_103 2010_1120_Clare and Kiks_138 Everything in life seems to follow a natural process, the so called circle of life – a caterpillar turns into a cocoon, and eventually into a beautiful butterfly, two people meet, date, get engaged and get married- . For me, having spent two and a half enchanting years dating Claire did not seem to follow the natural process, after having known her for just a couple of weeks, I knew this was the woman I wanted to marry. 2010_1120_Clare and Kiks_180 Our relationship had flourished into a beautiful bond, filled with joy, romance, adventure, and excitement. One of our favorite activities is exploring a foreign place; being immersed in the foreign culture, a romantic adventure. I thought that her love for romance, elegance, and culture would make Paris the ideal place to propose to her. I wanted to do something different than the “traditional” locations in the city, so I got in contact with the Louvre about getting access to the Crown Jewels room and setting up the engagement ring with the rest of the jewels. For insurance reasons they were unable to do so, but that they would gladly accommodate the room so that I could propose there. 2010_1120_Clare and Kiks_043 After a few months of planning, and with the help of the best consultant, Gold Leaf Event Design & Production we planned a trip to Paris in November with the excuse to go to a ball. The day came and I asked her if she wanted to go to the museum with me, the crown jewels were being exhibited, and I knew how much she liked ancient and vintage jewels. I did not expect so many people to be at the exhibition so we had to wait for a while before the room emptied out. I tried to discretely ask the guard to take a photo while I proposed, but I guess my French was somewhat rustier than I thought. Finally, I approached her and talked to her a little bit about the history of the Jewels and what they each represented, and when we were about to finish the exhibition and she was looking inside the glass, I kneeled down –extremely nervous because there was a group of tourists just entering the room- and asked her to make me the happiest and luckiest man on earth. Let it be known that the best photos are probably in the other tourists’ cameras, the security guard did not do such a good job of capturing the moment and the pictures came out blurry. 2010_1120_Clare and Kiks_224 2010_1120_Clare and Kiks_266 She said "yes", we called both of our families to share the joy of our enchanting day.

Celebrity Weddings Gold Leaf is Gushing Over

As we begin planning for a bright and beautiful new wedding season and year, we can’t help but recap all of the celebrity weddings that took place in 2014.   From Kim and Kanye (did you know they got married? It was pretty low key…), to long time partners Elton John and David Furnish. Through all of the ceremonies, cold feet, diamonds you could serve tea on, and INCREDIBLE fashion, we narrowed it down to two couples that really stole the show in our eyes.

#1-Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl

I don’t think anyone-no matter your personal style or taste, is surprised that this wedding tops almost every “So beautiful I could die” list.

[caption id="attachment_1849" align="aligncenter" width="800"][/caption]

The fashion EXPERT and German model, tied the knot in a teenie tiny private ceremony in Bedford New York after 8 years of dating. The two wanted it small and intimate with plans to do it bigger in the future, when all of their loved ones could be present. Olivia perfectly executed a Carolina Herrera two-piece and relaxed, natural hair and makeup.

“I wanted the makeup to be light and fresh and more focused about the lashes while keeping the eyes clean. My hair was in an uncontrived ponytail, one of my favorite looks” Palermo told Glamour Magazine UK.

And the best part, deep blue Manolo Blahnik’s for her “something blue”. The girl can do no wrong.

#2 –Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine

We’re shocked! No we’re not…these two absolutely crush it.

[caption id="attachment_1845" align="aligncenter" width="800"][/caption]

(This was taken when they first found out they made our 2014 best weddings list…NBD)

While Mr. Levine has been known to have cuddled up with one or two Victoria Secret Angels, Behati locked it down (cheers to you, sister). The couple got married this past July in a very private destination wedding in Mexico. While there are ZERO pictures (killing us), reports state it was a beach party for the stars. With the VS front-runners as bride’s maids, and Maroon 5 band mates as groomsmen, it was one talented, good-looking evening. Behati wore a custom designed Marchesca gown and both humbly requested charity donations as gifts.

Now for the weddings keeping us on the edge of our seat

 #1-Jennifer Anniston and Justin Theroux

[caption id="attachment_1848" align="aligncenter" width="800"][/caption]

It doesn’t come as a huge surprise that Jen and Justin are keeping nuptials absolutely mum. The private couple has been engaged for 2 years but plans are finally in gear. Recently in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, when asked about their upcoming wedding, Jen said that no one has any idea when, or where their wedding will be held. It is such a mystery that good friends of the couple, Sacha Barron Cohen and Isla Fischer, come to all gatherings and parties dressed in wedding attire, just to be prepared.

“Even like the 4th of July last year, they showed up and Sacha was in a powder blue suit and Isla was in a cute little dress. And we were like ‘Guys, it’s the 4th of July we’re in cutoffs eating hotdogs. We will actually let you know!’”

I’ll take the Cohen’s cue, and wear a dress everyday in anticipation.

 #2-Jackie and Kelso

[caption id="attachment_1846" align="aligncenter" width="800"][/caption]

These two…these two are so good. Have been since day one and we are BEYOND excited that they have finally gotten it together, and are marrying each other. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have been close friends since “That 70’s show”(which they both met, and acted on), first debuted in 1998.   After being a couple on the show, and quite literally being each other’s first and only prom dates, Mila was crushin’ she tells W Magazine.   As for the ceremony, it will just be the two of them. “Now my theory on weddings is: do it privately and secretly. My parents are okay with that. They’re just excited I said yes”.

 #3-Whitney Port and Tim Rosenman

[caption id="attachment_1847" align="aligncenter" width="800"][/caption]

We cannot WAIT to see this wedding come to fruition. Whitney is so detail oriented with such a lovely feminine sense of style, this will be every girly girls dream. Her sister Ashley is conveniently a wedding planner herself, and will be coordinating the entire day and all 150-200 guests. “[I want to take] elements from all different vibes and blend them together” she tells E! News. She wants neutrals and pastels for her outdoor destination wedding and says, “It’s just important to me that it’s sunny and everyone can just be casual”. We hope so too kids!

Congratulations and well wishes to our couples listed here and all of you couples reading! We are so excited for the 2015 wedding season!

A Destination Wedding, Close to the Heart

In the words of Mindy Weiss, "There is nothing more important about your wedding, than staying true to the two of you."  We cannot agree more.  For a day that will be cherised for the rest of your lives, it should be unconditionally genuine.  To us, the most genuine parts of our relationship's are the memories created together.  Often times those memories are created away from home, (not to say the best aren't sometimes created right in the living room; "Hey sweetie, your shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are spread out covering spiders.  DONT LIFT").

However, home is home.  Your everyday, your kitchen and your makeup studio.  A wedding should feel like a vacation and a celebration.  What better way to clebrate than at your favorite dstination spot.  With all the breath taking wedding venues around the world it is nearly impossible to choose, so for our first destination wedding post, we felt it was only right to choose somewhere close to home.  Colorado for the win-every time.
